Verghereto
Verghereto: The town originally rose around the Abbey of San Michele Arcangelo founded by Saint Romualdo in 987 and subsequently destroyed by a landslide.

According to legend, the name derives from "vergate" (strokes of a rod) which the monks used to chase away Saint Romualdo for imposing the rules of the Benedictine reform too rigidly. The monk escaped, and after crossing the Apennine ridge, founded the Sacro Emero of Camaldoli.
The Florentine Authority of Verghereto was the oldest municipal institution in the Savio Valley.
The Beer Festival in the last days of July attracts a number of young people. From August 1 - 20, summer enters full swim with "Ferragosto Vergherentino" which features various events
