Sarsina extends from the middle of the valley formed by the Borello River to that of the Savio, as well as along the Para River. It was inhibited the Umbrians around 400 - 300 B.C.. In 266 it was conquered by Rome and became a federate city, and a number of important remains dating back to the Roman dominian can be found in the National Archaeological Museum.
It is also the birthplace of the great playwright Tito Maccio Plauto.
Among the events of interest are the Plautus Festival (a summer theatrical event), the festival of the Easter Loaf and the Festival of the Patron Saint Vicinio in August to whom the Cathedral, the town's most important monument, is dedicated.
