Massa Lombarda is a small town of the Bassa Romagna area; its ancient origins are to be found in a rural settlement on the borders of the old wood called "selva Litana", near the Medusa ponds.
The end of XIXth century and the beginnig of the XXth was a very important period for this area: marsh areas were reclaimed, fruit plantations were set, sugar beet began to be cultivated.
In 1927 this town was the site of the National Fruit Farming Exhibition when it was nominated the Italian Fruit Capital.
There are also a number of interesting food festivals.The main monuments are the Bell Tower, the Town Historical Museum "C. Venturini" and the Museum of Fruit-farming "A. Bonvicini", dedicated to fruit farming.
