Corniolo is a small village close to Santa Sofia (12 Km). It was an ancient landed estate belonging to Guidi noble family. The village expanded and developed around the medieval suburb and S. Pietro church housing a beautiful bas-relief in polychrome ceramics by G. della Robbia's workshop and a valuable painting entitled "La Deposizione" (the Deposition) by G. Ponteghini.
The oratory of "Madonna delle Grazie" is also worth a visit as well as the nearby ruins of the castle.
The Valbonella botanical garden is 3 Km from the village and it is a real open-air museum on over 2 hectares of hilly land, at 700 mt above sea level. The botanical garden hosts over 500 species representative of the Appennine fauna and it was projected and realised in 1983 by the forest ranger corp.
The abandoned village of San Paolo in Alpe, which is completely submerged in the national Park of the Casentinesi Forests, can also be reached on foot from Corniolo.
