Petrella Theater Longiano

In 1850, on 27 April, under the government of the Papal State, the Municipality of Longiano gave assignment to engineer Biagio Abbati of Savignano sul Rubicone, giving draft a plan for a new theater. 'Abbati made a big project, which involved the construction of a building with 500 places, to be carried in the municipal area of the monastery of San Girolamo, and overlooking the main square. The project was regarded as useless, certainly for economic issues, but remained in the archives, while Abbati died some years later.

FOCUS SUL LOCALE

With the advent of the Kingdom of Italy and the new political order and social began to talk about the theater. On May 6, 1860 the City Council decided to built it in the area identified by Abbati, but considered sufficient for the population of Longiano, a building capable of seating 300 people. In 1863 Pietro Turchi became mayor who commissioned a new project to engineer Giulio Turchi, approved at its meeting on May 7, 1863.

In 1922 were staged various dramas, comedies and "La Traviata". Vigorous activity even during 1923 with "Don Pasquale", while in later years followed other with intense rhythm plays, including The" Rigoletto," The" Norma", "La Cavalleria Rusticana", "Avaro". In the 30's was used seldomly as room for meetings, whereas in 40's for balls.
After the Second World War the theater became a ballroom and then remained completely unused till the end of the 60s.

In 1980 the town of Longiano decided to restore it, and entrusted the design architect Sanzio Castagnoli. The stage direction was given to Sandro Pascucci, city employee and head of Social Services. On 22 November 1986 happened the new opening.

On November 22, 1996 was celebrated the tenth anniversary of the new activity of Petrella Theater with a concert by Gino Paoli, who was given honorary citizenship. Paoli was in fact the first artist who launched the successful formula test-debut, which made it unique and singular in the theaters national scene.

The influence of which is discussed above has as testimony the gradient of affection to Petrella theater of artists and public, feedback from the press and, not least for having triggered the virtuous process of revitalizing the curiosity about small municipal theaters of which our region is extraordinarily rich and all of Italy as well.
