Masini Theater Faenza The construction of the theater began in Faenza in 1780 and was completed in 1787. The initiative is of the Academy of Remoti, a group of intellectuals and artists from Faenza formed in 1673. The first theater pre-Masini, was built in 1720 exploiting the existing Salone del Podesta, was a wooden building designed by the architect Carlo Cesare Scaletta; this structure, however, for the extensive use of wood and other materials that are easily perishable, rapidly deteriorated.

FOCUS SUL LOCALE

The idea to renovate the auditorium of the old Podesta Theater was abandoned and the Remoti suggested the construction of a truly new theater and home office in the current Piazza Nenni. The museum opened in 1788, May 12, with the representation of the opera 'Caio Ostilio' by Giuseppe Giordani. Masini theater is a perfect example of Italian theater and set one of the most representative neo-classical architecture in Italy.
The architectural solution proposed by Pistocchi had already been prepared for the project of competition for the construction of the Theater La Fenice in Venice, a project that arrived in second place. The original design was created by Pistocchi covered in the following years, several measures of adjustment and restoration that modified some of the structure opened in 1788 without making any alteration or distort of the structure designed by the 'author.

In 1826 it was necessary to work on a radical cleanup of the statues, of decorations and gilded stucco polished surfaces since these were impregnated with a heavy and thick layer of grease and soot caused by illumination by oil, replaced in 1830 with candles.

A full-bodied, organic works project that brought major changes to the structure was implemented in the period between 1850 and 1869 and finallly some "defects" of construction were definitely corrected. The ceiling was finally consolidated with a new structure an operation which involved the repainting of the ceiling, the proscenium was widened. After the war was made a general restoration and a restoration of the functionality of the room. In recent times (1984-1990) Masini Theater was affected by a new round of renovations - Including the adjustment of the hall for safety requirements of places of public entertainment - that reported it to the original appearance.

The statues, in particular were cleaned by several coats of paint and layers of carbon black, so were returned to the primitive white; the surfaces of the walls of the boxes have recovered the pink stucco and it was given prominence to the blue plastering between order and order and to that of the great arc stage and choosing the same blue for the upholstery.
