Dragoni Theater Meldola

Dragoni Theater Meldola Citizens of Meldola commissioned the engineer Giuseppe Missirini from Forli to submit a project for the construction of a new theater on the back of the Palazzo Comunale. The construction began in 1827, but during the work the elliptical plan was modified into a horseshoe shaped one. The first show, presented February 12, 1838 by the Society Lipparini happened when the hall was still unfinished.

History and architecture

After over twenty years from the opening, some structures of the building demanded action, in 1867 engineer Luigi Conti from Faenza took charge of the design of renovation and construction of the boxes on the stage and the stairway to the gallery. The work was completed in 1877 with the execution of the work to the decorative parts of the painter Luigi Samoggia from Bologna
From this moment were staged performances of high quality, both in prose and poetry.
In the 30s and 40s the theater was used for film showings, dances, festivals and conferences, until, in 1954, was withdrawn feasibility. The work of recovery were started only in 1978 , under the direction of the architect Van Riel. Today the plant room is a horseshoe shaped one, with three tiers of boxes, thirteen per floor, and a gallery. The ceiling is decorated in tempera and lime with monochrome chiaroscuro effects and relief, similar to those of the pediment of the proscenium. In the outer perimeter, the monochromatic alternating rounds surround the effigies of famous musicians and prose writers.

Management
For years, the theater management is entrusted to the Accademia Perduta Romagna Teatri.

Programming
The season of the Dragoni Theater of Meldola is characterized primarily by shows of prose skillfully harmonized between work and brilliant scripts of strong emotional impact.
The season, which takes place from November to April, also includes a series of comedies and a dialect survey of theater for children.
The theater is also used for conferences and major cultural events, including the Premio Hesperia named after famous star of silent cinema and awarded annually to personalities from the entertainment world.
