Bonci Theater in Cesena was inaugurated in 1846. it is 'situated in Piazza Guidazzi, and was built on the ashes of the old Municipal Theater, in the historical building of Palazzo Spada in Cesena.
The "Alessandro Bonci" Theatre is a neo-classic building built on the ancient Spada Theatre. Works started on the 5th of August 1843 with a project by the architect Vincenzo Ghinelli. The inauguration and the grand opening was three years later, on the 15th of August 1846, with two Operas: "Mary from Rohan" and "The Lombards".
Since that moment the Theatre of Cesena has been knowing for the performance of the best lyrical and dramatic productions played by the most talented artists. But above all, it's as Opera House that the Bonci Theatre stands out.
From the outside the building has an elegant neo-classic style front with arcade and columns on which stands a triangle Tympanum with a low relief of the allegorical figures of Savio and Rubicone rivers. Below the Tympanum there is a front decorated with basso-rilievos dedicated to the Gods of Arts and to the Muses of Tragedy, Comedy and Epic Poem. Inside a large hall precedes the semicircular parterre.
The Theatre has four floors of boxes and a gallery. For the architect Ghinelli, in this way the building answered to the three basic demands of elegance, harmony and perfection.
The wideness of the stage gives all kinds of scenic needs.
